We hope that you
all enjoyed Orpheus in the Underworld last October. We had lots
of positive feedback from you. In the review by Pippa Hare,
her parting comment to Kentish Opera was "Now follow that
..!"
Well the answer is Bizet's Carmen!! The world's most
popular opera comes to The Stag Theatre, Sevenoaks featuring
some 100 performers including flamenco dancers!
In Bizet's opera
of raw emotion and high passion, Carmen, unlike the usual heroine,
is the villain of the piece. But what a villain! She flaunts
her sexuality, boasts of her infidelity, smokes, seduces, corrupts,
smuggles and drives the besotted Don José into a jealous
frenzy. One of the best loved operas of all time, Carmen, like
its heroine, is totally seductive. Listen to the stirring Toreador's
Song, the alluring Habanera and the captivating Flower Song and
succumb to its magic....
There will be five
performances between Wednesday 19th and Saturday 22nd May 2010,
including a matinee on Saturday.
Kentish Opera's
production will be sung in English with a full orchestra and
features young professional soloists from the Royal Academy and
major Opera Houses, plus the Kentish Opera Chorus. This stunning
new production is in the hands of the acclaimed Kentish Opera
production team comprising Mark Fitz-Gerald (conductor), Sally
Langford (director), Terry John Bates (dance director), Enid
Strutt (set designer), Carol Stevenson (costume designer) and
Colin Martin (lighting designer).
We would also like
to bring to your attention Strictly Music Hall presented at The Stag by West Wickham
Operatic Society, in association with Kentish Opera on Thursday
20th May at 2.30pm. WWOS's Music Hall is a Cavern of Conviviality,
an Emporium of Entertainment, in which the company is proud to
present, at enormous expense, a comprehensive collection of consummate
crime carefully contrived to captivate the connoisseur and confuse
the castigator.
Why not take in
both the Music Hall and Carmen on Thursday with time to enjoy
a meal between the two performances at one of the excellent restaurants
in the vicinity of the theatre.
Both the Kentish
Opera and The Stag box offices are now open. Give Peter or Maggie
a ring at the KO Box Office 08456 432 987 (local call rates)
to reserve your seats! Tickets can also be obtained from The
Stag Theatre Box Office on 01732 450 175.
Book early to secure
your favourite seats!
