Why
not sing with Kentish Opera?
Would you like
to experience the 'buzz' of singing some of the world's finest
music? You would? Then you should join the chorus of Kentish
Opera, one of the South East's premier opera companies.
We are a professional/amateur (pro-am) company, which means you'll
be working with professional directors, conductors, designers,
soloists and orchestras. Our current line-up includes director
Sally Langford, conductor Mark Fitzgerald, chorus master Robyn
Sevastos, and dance director Terry John Bates, who has worked
with Jonathan Miller at the Metropolitan Opera, New York, and
English National Opera. Our soloists are young professional singers,
often from major companies like English National Opera, The Royal
Opera House and Glyndebourne.
Our pro-am status
enables us to combine the high standards of a professional opera
company with the enthusiasm and freshness of people who sing
purely for enjoyment and our productions have been favourably
compared with those of the top opera houses.
Our chorus consists of people from a variety of jobs and professions
and is the envy of many similar companies. Our director, Sally
Langford has a well deserved reputation for producing- brilliant
chorus scenes, with each person given their own character and
acting moves. Opportunities often occur for chorus members to
sing supporting principal roles. We are a friendly chorus in
rehearsal and a strong and impressive force in performance.
Our main production is in the Spring at Bromley's Churchill Theatre,
where we have recently performed such classics as Aida, Turandot,
The Pearl Fishers, Carmen and Nabucco. (This year The Mikado
23rd-26th April). In the Autumn we now perform at the E M Forster
Theatre at Tonbridge School, and this year we will be performing
"Rigoletto" in October, so lots of butch men required!
Concerts are organised, often at open air venues, and we have
performed at the Royal Festival Hall, the Royal Albert Hall and
the Barbican. We also perform lighter music and we have an on-
going production of Trial by Jury in our repertoire which tours
the magistrate's courts. This summer we are performing this together
with popular opera arias and chorus numbers in the cloisters
of the Wren Quadrangle in Bromley (21st June).
We are looking for enthusiastic people who have good, but not
necessarily trained, voices and some singing experience. Membership
of the chorus is by audition at which we ask you to sing a song
of your own choice - there is no sight-reading involved.
We rehearse in Orpington from 7.30 - 10.00 pm on Mondays and
Wednesdays.
Breaking news!
A chance for posh frocks next year when in the spring we will
be performing "La Boheme" at the Churchill Theatre.
